OTIS COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN"IT WAS THEIR PARADISE" THE 2017 PARADE CLASS |
||
The community's Parade theme was: "Our special paradise, celebrating 75 years of Westchester." With our parade entry, we shed light on The Tongva Native Americans who lived and enjoyed this paradise long before its current inhabitants. The Tongva have been nearly anihilated. We brought the concept to light by depicting the Tongva Turtle Story, which describes how California was created: "Great Spirit looked down on earth and asked a sea turtle to gather his sisters and brothers, hold onto one another and not move. Great Spirit put soil on their backs. That formed California. But siblings tease and move about… and that’s why we have earthquakes in California." |
